The SURGE PLATFORM, system architecture andstate-of-the-artdesign, offer the best and most flexible solution topresent and futuresurge testing needs.

A unique control and high voltage bus enablesthe system to be expanded using plug and play technology, the systemcontroller detects new hardware and automatically updates the equipmentlibrary.
Haefely's unique single connect system enables EUTinterfaces (Telecom and Power) to be connected simultaneously to thetest equipment. Tests are performed "hands free" without having toreconfigure any hardware.

ModularityModularity
The modular concept is built around a PC based host controller (the PSURGE 8000) with physically and functionally independent modules. These can be either for impulses (PIM#X), or coupling/de-coupling (PCD#X).
The system uses distributed intelligence, each module has it's own application specific program, runs internal routines and communicates with the host controller. System modules are automatically detected by the host controller, providing true Plug & Play functionality.

Plug&PlayPlug&Play is possible because of the Haefely Control Bus connected in daisy chain fashion between all system modules and the host controller (PSURGE 8000).
Systems can be tailored to meet specific applications and then extended to meet other applications by the addition of further modules. Testing with new modules is as simple as connection to the host controller through the Haefely Bus and restarting the system controller. Once an auto scan has registered the hardware configuration, testing can begin. No software upgrade or reconfiguration is required. That's REAL Plug & Play! This feature also provides freedom to configure a test lab in a layout that best suits the application.
 Also included in the host controller is the systems high voltage DC supply, this is distributed between impulse modules using a safety interlocked bus system. Up to 99 modules in any combination can be controlled from just one PSURGE 8000 control unit, ranging from a stand-alone single impulse generator to a complete and fully automated test system.

latest circuit designSurge platform system uses the latest circuit design and high voltage technology. Ultra fast high power semiconductor switches enable Surge Platform systems to reach 8kV at maximum repetition rate of 0.5Hz.
The same technology also ensures highest waveform integrity, unprecedented phase angle synchronization, reliability and total test repeatability.

Integrated voltage & current monitorsVoltage & current monitors
with BNC outputs allow fast waveform verification using an oscilloscope without the need for special high voltage probes.

Single Connect© solutionSingle Connect© solution
Eliminate reconnection errors, reduce down time. The Single Connect solution performs tests to AC/DC power, telecom and I/O ports sequentially without having to power down or reboot the EUT. Surge Platform system switches between all required impulse types and coupling paths - without having to reconnect or reconfigure hardware. Reduced operator intervention increases throughput. The extensive range of power, Tip & Ring telecom, I/O line couplers and impulse modules can all be programmed from the PSURGE 8000 front panel controls or the all new WinFEAT&R PC based software package.

Interactive LCD display / menu structure
The interactive controller uses a large format LCD to present menus and user information based on available hardware and user selections. Working with the operator, Surge Platform system provides clear, concise programming information.

Pre-programmed standard test routines
embedded in the PSURGE 8000 software, prompt the operator to perform testing to a variety of international standards. This feature is enhanced through the WinFEAT&R software which includes an extensive library of standard tests.

Personnel Safety
A fully integrated hardware safety circuit links EVERY high voltage connector and cable, ensuring high voltage system integrity. Using safety circuit connectors on the PSURGE 8000 controller, test cabinets or protective barriers can be integrated in the test system. A clear system of red green lamps indicate the system status (safe/testing) and further enhance operator safety.

InterfacingInterfacing
PSURGE 8000 has full functional test programming and log file generation from the front panel.
In addition, a system can be controlled from the WinFEAT&R software package. Both "RS232" and "IEEE" interfaces are supported. "EUT fail input" is available to connect external pass/fail detection hardware (contact us for more information on this feature). "Start/Stop input" is a hardware control of test routines to enable semi- automatic test environments where
the same process is repeated on multiple samples. External "Trigger input" enables individual surge impulses to be released at a user defined event. "Synchronization input" places the impulse with high accuracy relating to any external cyclic signal.

InterfacingTest Log file printing
A log file is available from the PSURGE 8000 controller without the need to connect an external PC. The file can be printed using the integrated Centronix interface. The test log file contains parameter, individual impulse and when available external EUT supervision data. All test log files are date and time stamped.
Test log files can be printed automatically from a test routine or on demand.
The additional WinFEAT&R software package not only controls Platform system hardware but also includes a powerful, Microsoft Word based report generation tool.

All Surge Platform systems are available as stand alone components or rack mounted.
