Standard and modular ESD simulators are available up to 30kV, along with a number of accessories that ensure a complete ESD test setup (verification equipment, test tables, coupling planes). Our ESD simulators offer a number of outstanding advantages including "no contact detection circuitry", and unique integrated self test function. In addition, the modularity of our ESD guns allow users to exchange resistor and capacitor modules of different values in order to cover various ESD tests (ISO automotive, military, IEC, and many more). To learn more about the distinctive features of our ESD guns, see the distinctive features section below or contact us directly.

accessoriesCoupling Planes (HCP, VCP, GRP) Indirect injection of ESD fields into the EUT can be accomplished using Horizontal and Vertical Coupling Planes. The Vertical Coupling Plane is effectively an antenna of dimensions 0.5m x 0.5m which is placed on the Horizontal Coupling Plane but isolated from it. An ESD generator is then placed in the center of the vertical edge and at least 10 impulses of either polarity are applied. In cases where the EUT is large and cannot be placed on the test table, the Vertical Coupling Plane should be held parallel to and 0.1m from the EUT surface. The Coupling Planes require the use of a special cable with 2 x 470kOhm resistors at either end. This is for connection to the Ground Reference Plane which should be connected to the protective earth system. | Vertical Coupling Plane VCP

| EMC Standard Test Table The all wood table construction ( 0.8x0.8x1.6m) is necessary becausethe ESD phenomena is basically a radiation. Metal objects in the tableconstruction would therefore distort the field. Included with the test table is a Horizontal Coupling Plane which completely covers the table upper surface. This defines the maximum EUT size as being 0.6m x 1.4m. | EMC Test Table (metal free) | | |
| ESD Calibration Set 2GHz & 4GHz In order to comply with the calibration requirements of the IEC/EN 61000-4-2 standard, measurement of individual impulse paremeters have to be performed using a special coaxial current target. Since ESD events can be generated up to 120A, attenuators are required to reduce the impulse level so it can be displayed on commercial oscilloscopes. We offer ESD gun users a complete calibration setup which includes the necessary coaxial current target, attenuators, coaxial cable, user manual and test certificate. In addition, the brand new ESD 4GHz Calibration Set version is also available for users who wish to perform verification according to the 4GHz requirements of IEC/EN 61000-4-2 Edition 2.0.

Haefely EMC ESD distinctive features
At Haefely EMC we believe that a product design should be done in such a way, that it does not only meet the exact testing requirements of individual standards, but also meets the requirements of "real world" testing. Following years of experience in the EMC business, and feedback from ESD gun users through our sales and after sales support engineers throughout the years, we have learned that comfort of testing and reliability of test results, are as important as product technical performance. We therefore do our best to ensure that our ESD guns are designed in such a way that they offer outstanding ergonomic and balanced design, and ensure users that they can carry out their tests with complete confidence. Contact discharge current flow detection During an air discharge, the discharge will occur in the defined proximity of the test object, and the user can be assured with the press of a button, that a discharge has occurred, and has reached the target test object. Nevertheless, while performing a contact discharge test, there is not always proof that the discharge actually reached the target point. All our ESD products offer a unique NO CONTACT detection circuit function, which continuously monitors whether ESD pulses are really discharged to the EUT. If no contact has occurred, a warning message will appear on the LCD display. This distinctive function ensures users that the test was performed successfully, and prevents incorrect test results. Integrated self test function During the use, performance of an ESD Generator can change in a way that it could deviate from the allowed tolerances. In order to guarantee constant functioning of the ESD Generator within the specifications, it should be verified periodically. If the user unexpectedly realizes that the ESD Generator does not work correctly anymore, some delicate questions arise: When did the ESD Generator actually stop functioning properly? How many EUTs failed the correct test procedure? This can result in very costly reworking measures. This new function allows the use of a built-in self-test routine, within an individually defined period and without dismantling the test setup. By simply activating a push-button, it takes approximately 30 seconds for the self test function to check the internal 12V power supply, to verify the max and min voltage of the internal HV supply, to check the impulse capacitor, to check the HV discharge relays, and to verify the insulation of the entire HV circuitry. A positive test result indicates that the ESD tests can be continued.
