Combination & Ring wave test system (PIM 100, PIM 110 ; PCD 100 or PCD 130) Combination waves or Hybrids (U: 1.2/50µs open circuit, I: 8/20µs short circuit, PIM100) , are used in a wide range of test applications. The most common use is to simulate lightning impulses coupled onto the domestic single or three phase supplies. Standards such as IEC 61000-4-5 Ed. 1 & 2 and ANSI C62.41 require this type of impulse.
Ring waves (0.5µs rise-time, 100kHz frequency, PIM110), are used to simulate lightning or switching effects in domestic single or three phase supplies within an adequately protected building. The waveform has similar characteristics in both open and short circuit conditions. The ring wave is characterised as a bipolar damped oscillating wave. Standards such as IEC 61000-4-12 and ANSI C62.41 require this type of waveform.  | Features - Impulse voltage up to 7.4kV

US requirementsTIA-968-A (FCC part 68 test system) (PIM 800, 810 ; PCD 800, 100 or 130) TIA-968-A (FCC part 68) relates to the testing of Terminal Equipment connected at both residential and commercial premises. The demarcation point between telephone company network and subscriber network determines if TIA-968-A should be used or if another standard may be more appropriate. It applies equally to voice-band analog, Public Switched Digital Services and ISDN Basic Rate Access or Primary Rate Access systems. Testing is required on both the telecom ports and any power ports. Section 68.302 refers specifically to surge impulse tests. Terminal equipment can be telephones, fax machines, modems, answering machines, etc. Testing is required with equipment in it's normal functioning state. Telcordia GR 1089 (Bellcore) test system (PIM 900, 910, 930, 100 ; PCD 900, 100 or 130) GR-1089-CORE (1999) relates to testing of lightning and AC power fault surges in a telecommunications central office environment. Section 4 deals with the design and calibration of test equipment plus definition of test levels on telecommunication ports such as line cards. Test impulses are applied with the system in an idle condition, that is not transmitting or receiving data. However dc voltages may be present on the tip and ring pairs.
